Greg Howells
Greg Howells has extensive experience in the events and film industry working as a lighting operator, programmer, and technician.
His journey began in secondary school, where he had the opportunity to operate the lights for an end-of-year show. From then on, Greg took every chance he could to get involved in lighting. When the school staged a production of Annie, he volunteered to assist the professional technicians from the local theatre with rigging and programming the lights. It was during this show that Greg discovered his passion for lighting and knew he wanted to pursue it as a career.
While continuing his studies, Greg volunteered with local amateur dramatic societies, working as lighting crew for pantomimes. He also gained hands-on experience at a local music venue, helping with band load-ins, assisting sound engineers, and operating the lighting system during live performances.
After leaving school, Greg joined a local production company as a junior lighting technician, where he further developed his technical skills. He went on to complete a BTEC in Music Technology at college before studying Lighting Design at the University of South Wales.
After graduating in 2015, Greg joined a lighting company in South Wales, designing and operating lighting for concerts, festivals, and corporate events. In 2018, he decided to go freelance, collaborating with a range of production companies as a lighting technician, programmer, and operator across concerts, festivals, theatre productions, music videos, and corporate events. He also gained experience working on TV dramas as a desk operator.
In 2021, Greg founded Lights Control Action, combining his years of experience and passion for creative lighting into a company dedicated to delivering exceptional visual experiences.
